Cardiological Consultation

The cardiology outpatient clinic provides specialized medical care, including diagnosis and treatment of diseases and defects of the cardiovascular system, both congenital and acquired. We provide care for patients with coronary artery disease, hypertension, heart failure, heart defects and rhythm disorders, as well as after myocardial infarction.

Cardiologists have a wide range of non-invasive diagnostic methods at their disposal, such as cardiac echo (cardiac ultrasound), ECG, stress test or Holter test.

Heart echo (cardiac ultrasound, echocardiography) is an imaging test performed using an ultrasound device to diagnose heart disorders, valves, and possible congenital or acquired defects. It is also helpful in detecting coronary artery disease. The test is non-invasive and painless.

Indications for a cardiac echo test include:

  • ischemic heart disease,
  • myocarditis,
  • infarction,
  • thrombosis,
  • endocarditis and others,
  • arterial hypertension.

Preparation to the test;

The patient should arrive for the Heart Echo test feeling fresh and well-rested.

You should take your regular medications at the usual time, unless otherwise directed by your referring physician, in which case you should follow his/her instructions.

You should bring all previous test results with you to the test.

ECG is a basic test in the diagnosis of heart disease, and allows for the evaluation of heart rhythm and heart disorders.

Preparation to the test;

The ECG test requires no special preparation.
In people with a heavily hairy chest, it is sometimes necessary to partially shave it in order for the electrodes to stick to the skin.

Exercise ECG (stress test) is a test to determine how your heart works during exercise. Performed by and recommended for people with suspected coronary artery disease and heart disorders. This test is non-invasive and is performed on patients of all ages.

An ECG stress test involves walking on a moving treadmill while connected to electrodes placed on the chest, arms and legs. During the test, the patient is under the constant supervision of a cardiologist.

Exercise ECG testing allows you to assess the physical performance of your body. This test, which forces the body to work harder, while monitoring ECG and blood pressure, allows to assess the efficiency of the cardiovascular system. It is helpful in diagnosing and evaluating the effectiveness of treatment for coronary artery disease.

Preparation to the test;

Refrain from smoking, eating, drinking coffee, tea, or energy drinks before the test.

You should wear comfortable clothing for the examination – i.e., shoes, preferably sports shoes, comfortable sports pants/ sweatpants, and a T-shirt.

You should take your regular medications at the usual time, unless otherwise directed by your referring physician, in which case you should follow his/her instructions.

A blood pressure Holter involves monitoring your blood pressure over several hours using a portable blood pressure monitor, and is also known by the acronym ABPM (ambulatory blood pressure).

Hypertension is one of the most common cardiovascular diseases. Untreated hypertension significantly increases the risk of serious cardiovascular complications such as myocardial infarction, stroke and cardiac arrhythmias. .

BP monitoring is worth doing if:

  • there is a significant difference between the BP measured at the doctor’s office during the same visit or different visits and/or there is a significant difference between the BP measured at the doctor’s office and at home;
  • hypertension or preeclampsia is suspected in pregnant women;
  • the patient is suspected to be refractory to pharmacologic treatment of abnormal blood pressure;
  • the patient is suspected of having drops in blood pressure, which is particularly common in the elderly, diabetics, and those taking medications.

Preparation to the test;

The BP (blood pressure) Holter test should be performed during normal activity.

You should take your regular medications at the usual time, unless otherwise directed by your referring physician, in which case you should follow his/her instructions.

You should bring all previous test results to the examination.

ECG (electrocardiography) Holter test is a 24-hour or 48-hour observation of the heart’s activity in its daily routine. Holter heart testing is painless and completely safe. It can be performed repeatedly, in all patients regardless of age.

The test allows the patient to diagnose heart rhythm disorders and palpitations, ischemic changes that occur during the test. An ECG test allows you to evaluate your heart not only at rest, but also during your daily activities.

The test is particularly important for the diagnosis of many conditions, including:

  • heart rhythm disorders,
  • ischemic heart disease (after myocardial infarction, after coronary angioplasty or coronary artery bypass graft surgery)
  • syncope and loss of consciousness of cardiac origin,
  • assessment of normal pacemaker function,
  • observation of certain congenital heart diseases.

Preparation to the test;

Before the ECG Holter test, it is advisable to degrease your skin and refrain from using body lotions or other moisturizers/lubricants.

You should take your regular medications at the usual time, unless otherwise directed by your referring physician, in which case you should follow his/her instructions.

You should bring all previous test results to the ECG Holter test.

When reporting for the test, patients with an implanted device must bring a device passport or information sheet/summary report from the hospital with information about the type of device.
